Charleston Library Conference

Jun 6, 2022

Join us for our latest podcast episode featuring a conversation between Colleen Campbell, Max Planck Digital Library, and Matthew Ismail, Editor in Chief of the Charleston Briefings and Conference Director.

Colleen lives near Florence, Italy, and after many years working for Casalini Libri and ITHAKA in Europe, she currently works with the Max Planck Digital Library (MDPL) which is based in Munich, Germany.  She leads external engagement in the open access transition, and advises on stakeholder engagement in implementation of Germany’s nationwide transformative agreements. Colleen also coordinates two international initiatives that are hosted by MPDL involving research organizations and libraries.

Colleen and Matthew discuss Colleen’s most important current initiatives at MDPL: OA 2020 and the ESAC Initiative. Colleen discusses the new momentum gained by OA since OA 2020 and Plan S gave coordinated energy to both the researcher and funder sides of the OA movement. She also discusses the complexities of working with the many stakeholders involved in OA to achieve an outcome that works for researchers, funders, libraries, and publishers. Colleen’s broad vision of the scholarly communication landscape allows her to provide a compelling view of where OA stands in 2022 and where it might be in the near future.
