Today’s episode features guest host, Michael Upshall, Community and Outreach Manager at Core, who talks with Thomas Krichel, Founder, Open Library Society.
Thomas Krichel is a digital librarian and a pioneer of scholarly repositories. In this conversation, Thomas discusses the development and significance of REPEC, a digital library for economics, which he founded in 1997. He explains the role of working papers in the research process, the importance of open access, and the innovative features of RePEc compared to other platforms. Today, RePEc holds millions of articles, yet has only a handful of people directly involved in its administration. Thomas also addresses the challenges of funding and sustainability, the impact of rankings on participation, and the future of current awareness systems in academia.
